The AFO designation means front-to-back airflow — air enters through the port side and exits through the power supply side. This aligns with hot-aisle containment architectures where server exhaust and switch exhaust are directed into the same hot aisle. If your environment uses cold-aisle containment, the EX4650-48Y-AFI (back-to-front) model would be the correct choice.
Yes. The EX4650-48Y ships with a Base software license that covers L2 switching, basic L3 routing, multicast, and ZTP. BGP, IS-IS, and EVPN-VXLAN require the Premium license (EX4650-PFL), and MPLS requires the Advanced license (EX4650-AFL). Both Premium and Advanced licenses are sold as perpetual licenses and are not portable between devices. Contact our team if you need assistance sourcing the appropriate license.
